The Gods of the Channel were smiling down on him that day. Little did John realise what was brewing under the bonnet as he flew across the watery miles.

via Mike Kendall Golf X-Ray flew across the English Channel and a large chunk of Northern Europe before a spark plug, improperly tightened during a full CofA in UK, finally spat out. She was climbing out from Kamp Lintfort on her first club sortie. Newly-qualified PPL John Chorley did well to put her back on the ground and was unlucky to run out of runway before a ploughed field tipped her gently onto her back. Character forming, but John, trapped in the cockpit for many long minutes before rescue, still gets jumpy at the smell of petrol to this day.
